Popcorn: Congratulations York District!! We had a popcorn sales increase of $16,000.00 or 12% (highest in the PTC) over last year. ($143,700.00 in 2008 and was over $160,000.00 in 2009) Great Job to all the units that sold popcorn. Please mark for Friday night, November 13 from 5:30 – 7:00 PM or Saturday morning, November 14, 2008 from 8:00 – 11:00 AM as the dates to pick-up your popcorn at Hussey Seating Company 38 Dyer St. North Berwick, ME. The awesome guys at Hussey Seating will have the orders picked for you. All you need to do is come pick it up.
Unit Inventory: As a reminder, York District’s Fall Unit Inventory will be held during the week of November 16-20, 2009. At this time our Unit Commissioners and York District Staff will be contacting ALL the units in York District to see if the scouts listed in your unit matches up with the names in the Pine Tree Council Service Center. We want to make sure that ALL scouts are registered so their advancements, insurance coverage and Boy’s Life magazines are up to date. Thanks for your help. Please note that you can e-mail your current roster to Frank if that would be easier for you if you do not have a commissioner.
York District Membership: York District membership as of 11/5/09 is 1,587 youth and 69 units. The York District goal for the 12/31/09 is 1,660 youth and 72 Units. The only way we can make our goal is if we view recruiting as a year round program. We need to add @ 73 new youth and 3 more units to our program to make it happen. Currently our membership looks like this: CS 1,080 (1,071 in 2008 UP 9 CS), BS 494 (521 in 2007 down 27 BS), Venturing 7 (10 in 2008 down 3 Venturers) and Exploring 6 (down 51 Explorers from 2008). Please note that Exploring was added to the district in 2009 and two programs did not come back. Can we do it? Yes we can. As a note to ALL BS Troops, now is the best time to get linked up with your feeder pack or pack in your area. The more they see your troop’s face at their events (Fall Sign-up is a good one) the stronger your chance is to have they cross over into your troop than someone else’s. NOW is the time to start the Webelos Transition Process. If your program is not growing, your gonna die. Give the pack a call. It can not hurt.
York District Annual Business Meeting: The date for the York District Annual Business Meeting is Thursday, November 19, 2009. The meeting will start at 7:00 PM and will be held at the Saco City Hall. The meeting will include the election of York District Committee members and we will also discuss the state of our district. Your input is very important to us and we hope you will join us for this meeting. All Charter Organization Representatives, District Committee Members and District Members at Large should mark your calendars for this date. For more information please contact Frank.
York District Fall Camporee 2009: Thank you to Troop 312 for hosting the “Harvest Dining” Camp-o-ree in North Berwick. The weather was great and it was nice to see everyone enjoying the events T312 had setup and I heard the food was quite good. We had over 200 attendees over the weekend. Again, Thank You Troop 312 and its families that helped out.
Leader Training:
Cub Scout Basic Leader Training (CSBLT) will be taking place at the Roundtables this year on the following Thursday dates: 11/05/09 and 12/03/09 at the Sanford High School. We are trying this method rather than having leaders do it all in one day. A leader MUST take ALL three sessions to complete their CS Basic Leader Training requirement
The PTC has scheduled training for this Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the PTC Service Center starting at 8:00AM. This will cover training for ALL scouting positions. Please see the flyer available tonight FMI.
Re-chartering Time for 2010: As in the past, all troops re-charter in February and the packs in March. The troop charters will be passed out to the commissioners in November for troops and December for packs and you will be contacted to set a date to get the re-charter paperwork to you. Please note that in 2010 ALL re-chartering will again be done via the ON-LINE re-chartering program. There are NO Re-chartering forms in the re-chartering packets. A BLUE sheet listing the unit’s On-line Re-chartering Access Code is in each packet. The On-line re-chartering is very easy, quicker and you can do it anytime of the day. PLEASE also note that in 2010 the National Registration Fee will increase to $15.00 per person from the current $10.00 per person. Boy’s Life will remain the same $12.00 per subscription. The PTC will also be changing the re-chartering time frame from February for troops and March for packs to December for ALL PTC units. That means that the 2010 re-chartering fee will be $12.50 per person (10 months) for troops and $11.25 per person (9 months) for packs as we will be short chartering all the units. We will then re-charter again in December 2010 for all units to get every unit in the December re-chartering timeframe. Your commissioners or district executive will work with you on this change over. You will still have to print out the final re-chartering information, have it signed by your charter organization and unit leader. After all that is done, it must be passed into the PTC Service Center with the proper money due.
Friends of Scouting: Time is fast approaching for Pine Tree Council’s annual Friends of Scouting (FOS) fundraising campaign. FOS is an annual fundraising campaign that gives Scouts, their families and interested people in the community an opportunity to contribute to the financial support of the council. This fundraising campaign helps support the council in the following ways: camp maintenance, keep camp registration fees low, organizing new units, servicing existing units, maintaining service center including records, information and support staff, and support for professional staff. Tony Fleurent will be the 2010 Family Friends of Scouting Chairman and he can be reached at 284-1586 or me2or@yahoo.com to schedule your unit’s family presentation. Please fill out the flyer available tonight.
Our next Roundtable will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the Sanford High School starting at 7:00 PM. With the Roundtables operating separately, your unit will want to have representatives to be in each Roundtable area (Cub Scout/Boy Scout) and Cub Scout program level (Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos). Hope to see you there! Thank you for all you do for the Scouts in York District!
