York District Fall Camporee 2009

Harvest Dining
October 16-18, 2009
Noble High School, North Berwick, ME
Hosted by Troop 312, North Berwick, ME

This Fall Camporee theme capitolizes on the "Feed 4 for under $10" theme of local supermarkets by emphasizing Scouting approaches to this life-benefiting concept. Patrols will be judged on their ability to create three (3) meals (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) on Saturday of the Camporee. Judging criteria will focus on the ability to create nutritious meals for a Patrol of eight (8) for under $20 for each meal. Patrols will be required to submit their meal menu, food list and a copy of their shopping receipt to judges in advance of the Camporee start or in advance of the meal at the Camporee. At the conclusion of the Camporee, all menus and food lists will be synchronized and published on the District Website as the York District Cookbook to serve as a set of fresh ideas for meals on future outings. Additional requirements that will gain points will include:

Between meals, Patrols will be able to score extra points by participating in cooking, nutrition, sustainability and harvest-related activities native to Maine. The usual Saturday Night Campfire, with songs, skits and cheers, is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Troop 312 celebrates its 80th year serving the Scouts and community of North Berwick, and many notable members of Troop 312's past and present will serve as guest judges. Your Patrol will be surprised by who your "celebrity judge" just might be.

In preparing your meals for competition, your Patrol must plan, prepare and serve a meal for a Patrol of eight Scouts. Your Patrol must also feed your guest. Therefore, you may need to prepare a meal to serve more than 8, but your judge will only score based on the Patrol of eight on the competition scoresheet. If your Patrol contains less than eight Scouts, your Patrol must still prepare your meal as if 8 were being fed, and your judge will score your Patrol based on that observation. Your Patrol is welcome to invite additional guests to be fed to ensure that no food goes to waste.

Bring with you: A copy of current Medical Forms for all Scouts & Scouters. Your Troop Roster and registration will be filed online in advance of the camporee. Upon arrival at the camporee, you will confirm your roster with the registration staff. Please plan to deliver your medical forms in a manilla envelope or labeled binder per District rules for the District medical staff. Use of the new BSA Medical Form #34605, which becomes required starting January 1, 2010, is strongly encouraged. Online site reservation must be completed by October 15, 2009. There will be no penalty for on-site arrivals.

In preparation for the Fall Camporee, it is recommended that units review the Troop Program Resources to support the Scouts in learning about nutrition, cooking, food budgeting and general budgeting, hygene and other skills that will be touched over the course of the Camporee weekend. Bookmark this site and refer to it often. Better still, have your Scouts visit often and collect information.
